ISOHEALTH's Mike Lim Called up to the CFC!!!

Another BIG week coming up for Isohealth, Michael Lim and I. Mikey has
received the call up from Australia's biggest MMA promotion, the CFC!
Mikey will be fighting Kian "Karnage" Pham in the big top at Luna Park
Sydney on Friday August 26th. This is huge for everyone involved as
it's the first ever CFC 57kg fight!!!
In fact it is arguably one of the biggest 57kg fights to take place in
Australian MMA as it's the first time that the 57kg'ers have had a
fight on an event of this magnitude. Congratulations to both Mikey and
Kian for this great opportunity (but of course Mikey is the one I am
coaching and cheering for)!!!

Congratulations to Mike, Ray, and Alex! Sub of the Fight, Fighter of the Night & First Round Wins!

I have been so busy lately that I have not updated the news on our
website in ages. I just want to take a moment to congratulate a few of
our guys on some outstanding achievements in the ring and the cage:
- Mike Lim: Fought a full-contact kickboxing bout back in June, he
won the bout and received the Fighter of the Night Award on a card
containing over 30 fighters!!!
- Alex Sims: Made his MMA debut in July, he won by submission just 45
seconds into the first round! On top of that he weighed just 57kg and
gave away about 4-5kg on fight night!!!
- Ray Lawley-Sinclair: Also made his MMA debut in July. He too
weighed 57kg but went up against an opponent who was 7kg heavier and
had 9 Muay Thai fights already under his belt. Ray went on to win by
submission just 70 seconds into Round 1 and also won the coveted
Submission of the Night Award!!!
- Mike Lim (again): Mikey had an MMA fight in July, his opponent was
far more experienced yet Mikey went to win by submission in just 90
seconds! Another terrific effort from ISOHEALTH's 57kg dynamos!!!

Congratulations guys, we are all very proud of you!!!

ISOHEALTH Random BJJ Tip: #1

Hi Guys, we sell a lot of BJJ Gi's at our academy and most people like to keep their gi in good condition so here are the tips we give to help keep your investment in good condition. If you don't want your gi to fade then:
1:  Before you wear or wash it for the first time make sure you soak your new Gi in a bathtub with 3 cups of white vinegar added to the water. Soak it for a half hour or so.  Adding salt to the water can also help secure the colour in your gi.
2:  When you hang your Gi on the clothes line turn it inside out so that the sun doesn't fade your gi. You could also hang it in the shade or inside your house on a clothes horse if you don't need it to dry in a hurry.
3:  Make sure you wash your Gi after EVERY training session!  I've seen some websites that advise against washing your Gi every session because they say that washing it every day could make your Gi wear out quickly. So what!  Wash it every session because otherwise you are just a gross training partner.  If I was to see or smell one of my students with a dirty Gi then I would be an unhappy coach.

I know the above ideas may sound simple but lots of people have expressed their surprise when I suggest they hang their Gi inside out or do the colour setting with the vinegar.

Happy Training,
Matt : )

Rodrigo Gracie Interview Part 1 & 2

Hi Guys,

I've finally managed to salvage this footage off my old PC so here are Parts 1 & 2 of a great interview with Rodrigo Gracie.  Rodrigo is a former ADCC World Champ, and verteran of Pride and K1.  In the interview we talk about a range of topics including his times at Renzo's academy (Rodrigo was part of a super tough group at Renzo's which at that time included Rodrigo, Almeida, Roger Gracie and many other grappling and MMA stars) and the Gracie family motivation to provide hope for the average person in regards to defending oneself.  Rodrigo is more than just a great fighter and coach, he is one of my coaches and one of my friends, I hope you enjoy the interview.

Great Results for ISOHEALTH at Pan Pacific BJJ Championships 2010

3 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals, we also had 3 of our guys come in 4th place in a few different divisions. Not a bad haul for just 9 competitors.

On the weekend of November 27th ISOHEALTH Head Coach Matt Jones was busy coaching 9 members of our ISOHEALTH BJJ team at the 2010 BJJ PanPacs. The 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals was a great result given that we took such a small team and we received a lot of great feedback on both our performance on the mat and our friendy nature. All in all it was a terrific weekend for our team and we are proud of the way everyone performed. We'll start planning early for an even better performance next year!
